7 Days in Chengdu: More Than Just Pandas

By Beth (USA)

When I first booked my trip to Chengdu, I expected spicy food, giant pandas, and beautiful temples. What I didn't expect was to fall in love with the city's relaxed lifestyle.

Seamless Travel Experience

For seven wonderful days, our trip was arranged by PR China Travel, and everything—from the hotel and transportation to our local guide—was smooth and well organized. That gave us the freedom to simply enjoy every moment.

Iconic Attractions

Our first stop, of course, was the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Seeing pandas lazily eating bamboo was every bit as adorable as I had imagined. They're even cuter in real life.

We also explored Jinli Ancient Street, Wuhou Shrine, People's Park, Kuanzhai Alley, and visited the impressive Leshan Giant Buddha on a day trip. Every place had its own unique atmosphere, blending history with modern Chinese life.

A Moment That Stuck

One of my favorite memories wasn't a famous attraction at all—it happened in People's Park.

We sat down at a traditional teahouse, ordered jasmine tea, and watched locals chatting, laughing, and playing mahjong. Before long, we decided to join in ourselves. None of us really knew the rules, but friendly locals and our guide patiently showed us how to play. We laughed constantly, made plenty of mistakes, and enjoyed every second. It felt less like sightseeing and more like experiencing real life in Chengdu.

The Rhythm of Life

Looking around, I realized nobody seemed to be in a hurry. People simply enjoyed the afternoon with tea, conversation, and friends. It's a pace of life that I wish more places in the world could have.

Sichuan Cuisine: Bold & Beautiful

And then there was the food. Sichuan cuisine certainly lives up to its reputation! We tried hot pot, mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, dan dan noodles, and so many delicious local snacks. Yes, it was spicy—but incredibly flavorful.

What Chengdu Gave Me

What impressed me most about Chengdu wasn't just its attractions. It was the warmth of the people, the peaceful parks, the rich culture, and the feeling that life should be enjoyed, not rushed.

Final Thoughts

After seven unforgettable days, I left Chengdu with wonderful memories, hundreds of photos, and a new appreciation for China. If you're looking for a destination that combines culture, history, amazing food, and genuine local experiences, Chengdu deserves a place at the top of your travel list.

I'll definitely be back someday. ❤️
